The Michelin Guide

The Michelin guide was created in 1900 by André Michelin and at that time was an advertising guide, which was given away with the purchase of tires. France had then 2400 drivers and the guide had valuable information for the pioneers of the car, list of mechanics, doctors, maps of some cities and list of curiosities.

From 1920 the guide started to sell and for the first time appeared in it a list of restaurants. The information provided is relative to the quality of the restaurants; in this way began the rounds of anonymous inspectors. In the year 1926 the star began to be used to designate the best restaurants, and in 1931 started to be used the classification of 1, 2 and 3 stars. In 1926 also appeared the Michelin Regional Guide, the first Michelin tourist guide. Then, in 1955 Bib Gourmand was included in the guide, and it rewards quality food, generally regional, which is served at a moderate price.

The granting, maintenance or annual withdrawal of the awards and acknowledgments granted by this guide, including the insertion of the establishment in each edition that is an important satisfaction, it is a matter of controversy between food and hotel critics and even the general public, as it reflects a subjective criterion, even though it is always made by a team of experts.

In our region of La Marina Alta, in the north of Alicante, we have a large list of restaurants with some Michelin stars. In the edition of 2017 are listed with three Michelin stars Quique Dacosta restaurant in Denia, with two Michelin stars the restaurant Bon Amb in Jávea and with a Michelin star the restaurant Casa Pepa of Ondara. In the last edition, as a novelty, the restaurant El Rodat of Jávea and the restaurant Audreys in Calpe are awarded with a Michelin star, locating La Marina Alta as a tourist destination with a great value gastronomic offer.

At the Boutique Hotel LaSort, in Moraira, we are lucky because for 3 consecutive years our restaurant Sand has been recommended in the prestigious Michelin guide, being the only restaurant recommended in our town. The anonymous inspectors stand out the great quality of our kitchen, mention that makes us very happy and satisfied, extending the congratulations to all our team.
