The history of Restaurante LaSort dates back to the 1970s when it began its gastronomic journey as a typical tapas bar in Moraira where the Moll brothers mother cooked, among other things, her stews, spinach dishes, anchovies, and of course, paellas.
It was the year 1974, and the first tourists and foreign residents were beginning to arrive, attracted by the scenic beauty and tranquility of Moraira. Thus, it was decided to open Restaurante LaSort as an economic complement to the activities of the familys father, who was a musician (played the Alto Saxophone) in symphony orchestras and circuses like Price or California.
Around 1977, the first “Topless” appeared in the area, and excursions were organized to places such as Cala del Andrago, Punta Estrella, and Cala del Advocat, where, under the cover of nature, foreign women would sunbathe topless.
During those times, Josep Moll was taking a cooking course taught by the renowned Chef Joël Robuchon. By coincidence, Robuchon had been vacationing on the Costa Blanca for ten years and was a regular customer of La Sort, although he had never introduced himself. Their conversation went something like this:
"I have a modest restaurant in Moraira," said Josep Moll shyly. "Whats it called?" asked Robuchon. "LaSort," Moll informed him. "I am a customer of yours," confessed the culinary magician. And the Moraira chef almost turned pale.
At the age of 8, Joan Moll was already making coffee at LaSort, standing on top of two boxes, always ready and tirelessly hardworking. According to Joan Moll, daily contact with older people made him mature. Today, he is in charge of the winery, manager, and public relations.
He has studied at the Lausanne Hospitality School in Switzerland and expanded his knowledge at the Waldorf Astoria Hotels in N.Y. and the Savoy in London. For several years now, he has been in charge of service at all of Chef Joël Robuchon’s Ateliers around the world.
